In the issue 29/2020, the leading German-language business newspaper Handelsblatt reports on industry purchasing platforms, and XOM Marketplace is also mentioned as an example.
We started as a pure marketplace. Today we offer our customers, i.e. the sellers, not only to build their own webshops, but also the digitization of the entire process chain behind them", explains our COO Tim Milde in the Handelsblatt article of February 11th, 2020, "We quickly realized that actually everyone wants to have a marketplace or their own digital shop including a uniform process in order to be able to use the advantages of digitization for their own business".
The article highlights the B2B platform scene using the examples of XOM Materials for steel, metal and other materials and Chemondis, an online marketplace for chemical products. The Handelsblatt editors also point out that B2B business is all about trust and reputation and that established companies therefore have an advantage over Silicon Valley. "A car manufacturer that has a demand of two million tons of sheet metal will never order this quantity over the Internet with a mouse click and a shopping cart, as it does with Amazon," Tim Milde clarifies. Such processes are a bit more complex, he says, but they can still be digitized, including framework agreements, tenders and negotiations.
