Herrmann & Co GmbH now also offers its non-ferrous metals on the XOM Marketplace. For the Nuremberg-based trader, the platform offers a quick way to establish an online sales channel.

When Ludwig Herrmann founded his metal trading company in Nuremberg in 1838, he could not have guessed that his successors would sell "online" two centuries later. A word that certainly did not exist at that time. One year earlier, the Morse telegraph had been invented. Fortunately, we have developed further in this relationship, and Herrmann & Co GmbH has also moved with the times and entered e-commerce.

"We wanted to have as little effort as possible with an online sales channel," explains Christopher Schießel, who is the 5th generation of the family to run the company. "Therefore the offer to become part of a ready-made platform was very attractive for us".

No previous knowledge required

Herrmann & Co supplies non-ferrous metals and light metals throughout Germany and is able to cut to customer specifications via a modern cutting centre. "We supply automotive suppliers, toolmakers or window manufacturers with even the smallest quantities," emphasises Christopher Schießel. "Our stock includes more than 3,500 articles made of brass, copper, aluminium, bronze as well as red and grey cast iron".

A large part of the product range is now also available online via XOM Marketplace, the digital B2B trading platform for materials trading, where 70 dealers are already under contract. Herrmann & Co is thus participating in an established e-commerce solution. "In principle, we didn't have to deal with the technology behind the XOM Marketplace in a big way", says the trained industrial mechanic master craftsman. "Instead, we only had to send our article data to the XOM office and after a few weeks we were online. That was, so to speak, a smooth entry into e-commerce".

Shopping behaviour is changing

If you want to buy the products of Herrmann & Co or the other dealers on the XOM Marketplace online, all you have to do is register and then you can quickly find the items you are looking for using various search filters. Via the platform, personalized prices can also be requested and availabilities can be viewed. "Especially for customers who want to inform themselves about our products after office hours, this is very convenient", says Schießel. "In addition, with the generational change in companies, purchasing behavior is also changing. Ordering semi-finished metal products online will increasingly become the norm". Herrmann & Co has now been around for 182 years and is thus the oldest metal trade in southern Germany - but now one of the most modern in terms of e-commerce.
